Personal life and interests
Kris is a lifelong resident of Madison and began her fraternal journey when she was initiated into Madison Assembly #5, Order of the Rainbow for Girls in 1977. She served as Worthy Advisor in 1982 and as Grand Worthy Advisor for the State of Wisconsin in 1983-1984.
Kris was initiated into Starlite Chapter in Madison in September 1983 with her parents, Bob and Sharon Gruber. She held her first office in 1987-88, the first year her father was Worthy Patron. She has held the offices of Adah, Esther, Chaplain, Associate Conductress, Conductress, Associate Matron and was Worthy Matron for three years (2000-01, 2001-02 and 2006-07). She was thrilled to have her Dad as her Worthy Patron all three times she was in the East. A highlight of her Eastern Star journey was serving as Conductress when her husband Doug joined Starlite Chapter in 2005.
She was appointed a Grand Representative to Montana in 2002 and enjoyed a trip to Montana Grand Chapter in 2003. She has served on the World of Youth Committee, WGM Accomplishment Award Committee and as a Grand Page. She was pleased to serve as Grand Marshal during the Garden of Knowledge Session in 2004-05
Kris graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1987. She works at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she has been an Administrative Specialist with the Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis since 1988. She also works part time for a small business, the Long Term Care Institute. Kris and her husband Doug have two daughters, Megan (who is 18) and Kelly (who is 13). Both girls are involved with Bethel #44 Job’s Daughters; Megan is a PHQ and Kelly is in the line. Both girls swim, dance, play in their school band, and are involved in church activities.
Between work, Eastern Star and keeping up with the kids, there isn’t much time for hobbies! She does enjoy traveling, reading, walking, and spending time with her family.
