Of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star Of the State of Wisconsin
The Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Wisconsin assembled in second annual meeting in Egyptian Hall in the City of Milwaukee on Wednesday, February 17th, 1892 and was opened with the full ceremonial of the Order by the following:
The following chapters were organized:
Vesta, Prairie du Chien (56 petitioners) Jewel, Antigo (30) - On December 12, 1891 a duplicate dispensation was granted to Jewel Chapter having lost the original as well as all their property in a fire.
La Crosse (46) The first Grand Representative appointments: Missouri, South Dakota, California, Michigan, and Washington The Worthy Grand Matron also recommended, among others, that this Grand body take steps to provide for the official visits of the Worthy Grand Matron; and that the ballot be placed upon the altar for the purpose of insuring greater secrecy. At the time the Grand Chapter was organized there was a membership of 605. This year we have about 1,400 members On Wednesday evening, February 17th, Milwaukee Chapter exemplified the work and a banquet was held. A resolution was adopted on Thursday that no Sister or Brother can vote as two separate officers at the same time, but may give his or her proxy as an officer of the Subordinate Chapter to any Sister or Brother subject to the rules governing proxies. The secretary reported that she was permitted the use of a desk, typewriter and all office conveniences at the headquarters of the Masonic Grand bodies of the state and drew upon the experience of the Grand Secretary of those bodies.
