Tribute to the Flag:

Some three centuries ago, when the pilgrim fathers, driven away from the thought that men must think as others directed, must believe as other directed, little realized as they knelt there on the shores of this country what they were building, but three centuries have passed and the whole world has followed the thought expressed by these pilgrim fathers on their knees in that sand….

…Our great Commander-in-Chief submitted the proposition to Congress, and that Congress, representing you and I, declared that war it should be. My friends, when this government decided to go into this war, there was not one selfish motive. There is no desire for territory, for money or for earthly benefit. The only purpose is, that human rights cannot be trampled upon so long as this government has the power to prevent it.

Chapters having the largest net gain for the year are:

Vega No. 76 – 53
Electa No. 75 – 38
Phoenix No. 215 – 31
Baraboo No. 31 – 21
Alpha No. 114, Argyle – 24
Kenosha No. 92 – 24
Walworth No. 148 – 21

Human Touch poem:

Tis the human touch in this world that counts
The touch of your hand on mine
That means so much more to the fainting heart
Than shelter or food or wine
For shelter is gone when the night is o’er
And food lasts but days
But the touch of your hand and the sound of your voice
Will sing in my soul always

Masonic Home:

When the war is over and peace reigns once more, everything will be accomplished that has been planned for the Home. Larger, more commodious buildings will be built for the comfort of our unfortunate Sisters and Brothers, and many made so perhaps because of the great world conflict.

Woman’s Committee State Council of Defense:

Of the 211 working Chapters of Wisconsin…most have established regular working days for the Red Cross and other war activities, many had war gardens, many have provided service flags for their Masonic Bodies, and nearly all report members “Over There” as soldiers or nurses. …sale of British War bonds, garments made, surgical dressings made and monetary donations given.

A drill was given by the Girls Club of Milwaukee Chapter No. 2. The 21 young women dressed in white sailor suits, white caps and blue ties went through the different movements and maneuvers in a perfect manner, and it was certainly a most beautiful sight.
