Tuesday, 1:00 P.M. The golden eagle that spread its wings across the entire East looked down over an auditorium decorated in keeping with the times. Red, white and blue predominated with a touch of green symbolic of the year’s motto “Semper Fidelis” (Always Faithful) and the station of Martha. The tri-colored shield in the East on which the eagle rested was flanked by the flags of the United Nations. Red and white gladiolas picked up the patriotic colors against a fern background. At the base of the stairs leading to the dais, an easel held a huge replica of a $100 War bond. The Worthy Grand Matrons clubs of Milwaukee and Walworth Counties, each carrying a small American Flag, entered to form the letters U and S on the steps of the dais. Two members of the Worthy Grand Patrons club unveiled the huge War Bond at the base of the steps with other members of this club standing at attention in the north and south. Uniformed Red Cross workers carrying Red Cross flags approached the East to complete this setting. In the foreground, the Grand Pages dressed alternately in gowns of red, white and blue formed a deep V while Doris Dietsch of Loyalty Chapter No. 118, Plymouth sang “This is My Country.” Worthy Grand Matron: During the year I suggested the creation of a Service Fund ….used to aid the war effort. A goodly number of our chapters have graciously responded to my appeal for funds which would aid and comfort the many dear ones in the armed forces who are direct kin of our members. May God speed them a safe return to those who wait….to the considerable sum which remains in this fund might also be added donations to make a total sum sufficient to purchase an ambulance to be donated to the Red Cross as a direct and outright gift of the Order of the Eastern Star, State of Wisconsin. The WGM made 67 official visits. “Almost without exception the work of the chapters was of very high caliber.” Worthy Grand Patron: I am so thankful and proud that the members of our Order are outstanding in sacrificing for the promotion of the War. They are the vanguard in Bond drives, in Red Cross Work and in the donation of time and energy for other war activities….it is a matter of pride to the Order that in the hour of need of our Country, we, as individuals and as an organization have not failed to express in deeds what we confess in words, i.e. fidelity and loyalty to our Country and to our God. On Tuesday evening the Male Quartet from Electa Chapter No. 75, Milwaukee, favored the assembly with several well chosen selections. Grand Lecturer, Laura Baker: I inspected 87 chapters. Freewill Offerings for the Masonic Home: $1,214.40 Service Fund: $2,129.18 distributed. $1,061.37 balance one hand.
