“LIGHT OF THE WORLD” inscribed in old English letters of gold against the red velvet teaser above the Grand East proclaimed the theme of the year, taken from the Holy Scriptures, John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Designated as the “Harbor Session” the Auditorium had appropriate nautical decorations.
Oversized oars draped with fish net and floats formed an archway at the West entrances to the Grand Chapter room. Hovering over the Southwest entrance was a life size seagull. Roping strung from rustic posts outlined the Grand Chapter floor. Adding seasonal color was a spray of autumn leaves and cattails at the base of each post.
An artistic arrangement of fish netting and floats, effectively lighted, formed a setting for the West, South and North stations of the Grand Chapter. Huge lighted metallic shells each containing a chrysanthemum plant, appropriately colored, stood behind each Star Point’s station.
A large gold anchor was in place on either side of the stairway to the Grand East. White canvas draped from the stair railings gave the effect of a ship’s gangway. Immediately in front of the lectern stood a pilot’s wheel, complete with lighted binnacle.
